Herman Melville

Herman Melville was an east coast American. He wrote Moby Dick, about Captain Ahab and a great white whale.

Herman Melville (1819-1891) was an American novelist, Renaissance poet and a short story writer. Moby Dick was his masterpiece. The duel between the a great white whale and Captain Ahab of the Pequod has been required reading for millions of school kids.

Herman Melville was a seaman in his youth. He later turned to writing and wrote his famous novel Moby Dick, about Captain Ahab and his obsession with a great white whale. The whale destroyed Ahab in the end.
