Friedrich Wilhelm Heinrich Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859) was a German polymath, geographer, naturalist, explorer. He believed in science and Romantic philosophy. Humboldt travelled extensively in the Americas and wrote and published several volumes on his travels.
